Has Job Hunting Turned Into a Chore?

Career Elevation

If looking for a job turning into a chore?

Do you feel like you’ve searched every single platform and applied for every job but you haven’t heard anything back. Or you haven’t heard back from the job that you do want? Why yes, I’d be very happy to help you with this situation you’ve got on your hands.

Have you tried upgrading your resume? If you’ve already changed and updated your resume, then I challenge you to change the font, change the layout, add a little bit of colors, and add a headshot if you’d like. Make it look like a totally new resume, if you need help feel free to google “modern resumes” or “updated resumes” or simply just use a template on Word doc, they’ve got a ton and a lot of them have fun colors and a place for a photo. You could just copy and paste your current resume into the new template.

also, make sure that you’re putting in keywords that will help your position. For example, if you’re applying for a sales position, make sure to add the word sales to your resume. This will work for any field that you may be going in to, just look for those keywords. When helping build resumes, I will look into jobs that they’re interested in, and just some of the keywords that the employers have added into job ad. This will help if the company is using an applicant tracking system, it will pick up on some of the keywords that they may be asking for in a resume.

Another trick that you can do, is taking a look at their website and see what they have to offer for keywords there too. I’m sure that you’ve found ads out there that you think would be a perfect fit, make sure to check out those websites!

If the ad and the website doesn’t help you out while looking for skills, then ask your friends, well your nice friends, your parent, a family member, what are your skills, they’ll be sure to give you something!

Remember that you’ve got about 5 or 6 seconds to wow the person who is looking at your resume, would you hire you?

Once you’ve upgraded your resume resend it to those jobs that you haven’t heard from in about 2 weeks or more.

And once you get an interview, how are you performing? When you go into an interview do you feel like this is your last chance? Do you feel like you have to be 110% perfect? Do you feel like if you don’t get this job, you’ll never get one? Basically, are you feeling desperate? Stop it, stop that right now. Change your mood, if you’re feeling frumpy or grumpy that you haven’t landed a job yet, change your mood. Would you want to work with you when you’re frumpy?

Never settle for a job, you’re always going to regret it. Please never think in your head, I’ll take anything, I just need something. Don’t let life get to that point. Be prepared and be ready to use your transferable skills.

You know when you’re in an interview and they ask you, “Do you think you’ll be a good fit for the position”. How do you normally answer? Umm, yeah, I think this would be a good job for me? Or do you answer confidently and say “Yes, Mrs. Emily employer, I would be a great fit for this position. I’ll be able to use my current skills while building on those to help me be the employee you need for the position today and the one that I’ll be molded into in the years to come”
Now doesn’t that sound much more confident? Stop waffling and give a hard yes when you get asked this question. You could even say, Yes and I could start on Monday or in two weeks on the 1st.

If interviews still really freak you out, pretend like you’re an actor. What actor exudes confidence? Who is friendly and confident? Pretend that you are them while you’re interviewing and do what that person would do for the whole time.

Ok, I’d like to wrap today up by touching on what we spoke about, we talked about upgrading your resume and sending it out to those jobs that you’ve already sent it out to. We talked about adding keywords and where to find them from. We went over giving a hard yes answer when asking would you be a good fit for this position? And if all else fails, then pretend like you are your favorite actor and ooze confidence.
